Dear Supporters and Friends,

We have great news to share with you about those two dogs at the top of our website site that look like they are praying to get out of the cage. They have just been adopted in Holland! They, along with two others from the Galati shelter, will be transported to Holland next month!

What we need right now is $1000 to ship all four dogs to Holland.

Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Nancy

Image of the Month

Dr. Aurelian was spaying the dogs from Lehliu. He came upon this man with his dog that had already had litters of puppies. Dr. Aurelian explained to the man how important it is to spay his dog. Eventually the man agreed to have his dog spayed. NO MORE PUPPIES!

Please Help Tomita from Tecuci

Ms. Nancy,

My name is Raducanu Mihaela and I am the president of The Society of Animal's Protection Tomita in Tecuci, Galati County, Romania. I found this society to help abused animals, to educate the people regarding the behaviour that they should have about the animals, but also to build a shelter for all abandoned and abused animals with and without an owner. The society's purpose is the protection of the animal's rights through the means proffered by the national and international laws with regards to the animal's protection.

The main objectives of The Society of Animal's Protection Tomita are:

  1. The fight against cruelty to the animals;
  2. Activity for prevention and punishment of the abandoned from private property;
  3. The animal's rights promotion for a decent life and death;
  4. The building of a shelter for the protection of the abandoned animals (dogs, cats, horses, cows and the others), found in public domain, where the people can visit the animals and adopt them;
  5. Participation to lobby actions to promote the laws of animal's rights and surroundings protection;
  6. Attracting financial resources in the country and abroad, the strategies, programs and development projects in the field of animal's protection;
  7. Promote educational activities on the role and involvement of civil society in knowledge and application on animal's rights;
  8. Support activities with ecological character;
  9. Collaboration with local and central authorities and associations and foundations of animal protection for the popular program implementation of national and international laws on animal's protection.

The Society for Animal's Protection Tomita will start, also, an information campaign for the citizens about the sterilization of dogs and cats with and without an owner and the advantages of sterilization with regards to the animal's life and health. We want so much to solve these problems as rapidly as possible so the dogs and cats don't multiply anymore. We want to help both animals and people, because we are involved in this together. We are going to collaborate with the authorities, police, veterinary health department, mass-media. All of them are in a mood for having a long and efficient collaboration.

To carry on our activity we need financial, material and, why not, professional support. Really, we need a car to carry the dogs and cats and other animals who need to be transported to the shelter or to the doctor, sticks for capturing the wounded and scared dogs, transportation cages, equipment for surgery (for tests, etc.), medicine, syringes, building materials. I want to make a good shelter where people can visit, a collaboration and a training center for our veterinary surgeon so we can carry on a good program. We'll also need food for those animals from the shelter. We'll need, too, money to pay the bills and to pay the salary for a few people (maximum 5; about 250-300 dollars per month, each employee) who will care about the animals, because not many people can work without a payment. We'll look for volunteers, but I see there's no one who can make a volunteer work. I'm the only one who's doing this, but I will not be able to do this too long. I need a salary to support my family. I don't like how it sounds, but this is the reality. Now, I ask you, Ms. Nancy and all of your donors, in the name of The Society of Animal's Protection Tomita , but especially in the name of all abandoned, abused and tortured animals to help us with what you can from all of these things I listed here, if you have the capability, so that we can help, too, these animals that we care for. Any kind of support would be a real advantage. I want to guarantee you that all your support for the animals will arrive to them and will be used for them and only for them. I asure you personally about that. I am an honest human being and I love the animals so much. I have a lot of compassion for all of them and I hope to help them more, with your support. Thank you in advance in the name of all animals and of The Society of Animal's Protection Tomita from Tecuci. I can hardly wait your answer.

the president of The Society of Animal's Protection Tomita

150 Pleas

This shelter in Lehliu houses 150 dogs. These dogs were strays picked up from the streets and brought to the shelter for care.

Many of these dogs receive medical treatment. Please make a donation to Romania Animal Rescue so they can be fed. $150 per month could feed all of the dogs for one month.

Please donate what you can to feed these dogs. Thank you.

What We Need Now

We now have enough airline miles donated so that Drs. Olson and Rose can fly to Romania next spring. Now, let's get some supplies to ship to Romania so they have what they need to perform their good work!

  • blankets
  • fluids
  • sutures
  • needles
  • syringes

We have a great shipping rate from Helping Hands in Sacramento, and can send many supplies to Romania with help from the donors.

Don't forget, we still need spay/neuter funds for the ongoing Gas Station campaign and to spay/neuter stray dogs every day. Visit our donation page to make your pledge today!

Stories of Happy Dogs and Their Forever Families

Romania Pets Gazette wrote an article about some dogs Romania Animal Rescue has helped. Here are some excerpts from the article; or you can read the entire article:

Squeaky Toys, Raccoons, and a New Best Friend—What More Could a Dog Ask For?

Ashley came to the U.S. as a puppy in the fall of 2006, and was adopted by Melissa Jones and her family in 2007.

She adapted to her new surroundings quickly and soon grew to love running on the hill behind Melissa's home. Ashley also discovered another facet of her personality when she met her new best friend, Lia—she never knew she was a cat lover!

Juliet Comes to America!

In 2004 Nancy Janes of RAR went to a PETA benefit at the home of Karen Kieckhefer; they met and became instant friends. Since Karen was one of Nancy's earliest supporters it was natural for Karen to be invited to a fundraiser for RAR at Fort Mason in San Francisco.

In an attempt to raise awareness, Nancy brought three dogs that had been rescued from a Romanian shelter to the benefit. The story of these dogs and their difficult lives touched Karen's heart and soon afterward, she told Nancy that she'd be interested in rescuing another dog from Romania. Nancy sent Karen a photo of a family of puppies in a shelter in Romania, and after one look, Karen was smitten.

Born to Run—Cassie

It had been a long 18 months for Cindy Hughes and her family as they searched and searched for the perfect canine addition to their family. Then they discovered Romania Animal Rescue, their mission to establish animal welfare in Romania, including adoptions of Romanian animals into forever loving homes, and, as they say, the rest is history.
