June 2010 Special Announcement: Cluj, Iasi and Turda

Dear Romania Animal Supporters »

The rescue organization, GIA, was doing a "Flash Protest" in Bucharest against the proposed killing of dogs. They came upon a small dog, with mycosis, who appeared to be pregnant. As it turns out, this dog, named Flash, was full of worms, not pregnant.

Delia contacted Romania Animal Rescue with the hopes of finding help for Flash. Within hours we had found a loving foster home for Flash in California! Erika, our beloved friend, agreed to take Flash into her home as well as pay for her trip from Romania and her vet bills! WOW!!! Flash is now named "Hayley" (short for Mihaela, meaning a Gift from God), and is adopted by Chris!

Spay/Neuter Update »

We are trying to find sponsors for ongoing spay / neuter in Tecuci. Sending donations for vaccinations, deparatization, and food will help this campaign immensely. Our very successful Spayathon in Tecuci in April provided the opportunity to train four vets. Dr. Aurelian is visiting two of these vets to do more intense surgical training before handing them their spay packs.

Dr. Aurelian and Dr. Pepe spayed / neutered 193 dogs and cats in Galati, Braila, and Tecuci. They spayed / neutered many animals at Help Labus in Galati, and more dogs for Mr. Cenac in Galati. During the week of June 6, Dr. Aurelian headed to Tecuci to train vets on modern spay / neuter techniques.

Mandatory Spay Law »

Two years ago, Braila buried a mandatory spay law. Litters of puppies are gathering in make-shift dens throughout the city. A litter of nine puppies was born because some citizens in Braila believed it was a sin to spay a pregnant dog; six more were found stuffed into this plastic shopping bag. These dogs are now born into a tragic existence. One of them had an ear canal infested with more than 30 ticks.

How can you help? Sign this petition to get the mandatory spay law onto Braila's books and actively enforced.

Watch the video of these puppies in their "den".

Spayathons »

Romania Animal Rescue will be traveling to the towns of Cluj, Iasi and Turda in July for another  Spayathon tour! These Spayathons will bring a humane alternative to the stray overpopulation problem in this region.

Foundation for the Protection of Community Dogs (FPCC), run by Robert Smith in the UK, will coordinate an educational event with RAR's Spayathon. Our goal is to spay / neuter 1000 dogs. We have the funds now to spay / neuter 800. We hope that donors can donate for this spay / neuter program to reach our remaining goal of spaying / neutering 200 more dogs!

See a Romanian news report of the Spayathons held in April.
