Maze and Associates conducted an audit of RAR. They checked our accounting books, donations, and expenditures, and reported that less than 1% of our expenses are overhead costs, generously paid for by Rory and Nancy Janes. This means that more than 99% of your donations go directly to helping the animals. If you would like a copy of the audit from Maze and Associates, please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

I hope you are enjoying 2011 thus far! We have started the year out with some great news and plans to help the animals! RAR has received an outstanding audit review: Under 1% of our donations went for the cost of overhead! We have always done our very best to ensure the animals get your donations, and this has now been verified by Maze and Associates. We're getting ready for two big occasions. HSI Spay Day in February will be held in the cities of Tecuci and Craiova. Our huge Spayathon in May will be May 15-25 in Craiova. Vets from the USA as well as American volunteers are going to Romania to help with this massive campaign! We are also seeking to purchase a van so that we can transport animals for spay/neuter and vet treatment, as well as supplies for animals and other Romanian charities. So, our chore list is full, but we can't wait to get started on it! Thank you for your support!
Nancy Janes, President, CEO and Founder Romania Animal Rescue, Inc. Dear friends, As we have been expecting, this winter in Romania is a heavy one. Despite that we are continuing our work into spaying as many animals as possible so that the spring will not bring that many homeless pups. We are driven by our goal of creating a new, better tomorrow for the countless of poor animals. We plan to reach 4000 surgeries this year and we need your help now to bring our M.A.S.H.-like mobile clinic where nobody has been before: In the remotest and poorest places of Romania. Please support our enthusiasm and donate towards casting a brand new worry-free life for the Romanian animals. Thank you all for all your help.
Dr. Aurelian Stefan, D.V.M
Most dogs are quadrapods, some are tripods, but Twinkle is a 2-and-a-halfpod: She cannot use her front left leg. She is only a puppy, yet had a terrible old fracture that healed incredibly wrong from no professional help. Twinkle was rescued by Hope for Animals in Craiova and brought to Family Vet clinic in Craiova. RAR was able to provide free veterinary treatment by Dr. Aurelian for her. She had puss coming from her leg. Thankfully, Dr. Aurelian operated on her. Guess what, she is doing just fine now, and up for adoption at Disabled Dog Rescue!
We still support Mr. Cenac by paying for the employment of his worker, and we provide vaccines for many animals and shelters. We also now have representatives in Tecuci and Iasi to oversee our programs in those towns. We are planning two Spay Day events in Craiova and Tecuci this year, providing 200 free spay/neuter procedures. At $22 per operation, you could provide the means for us to help even more animals. RAR needs a van to collect animals for spay/neuter, transportation of animals to vets, and to transport the supplies from place to place during our spayathons. We will also share the use of this van with some of our friend charities that do not have any means of transportation so that they can get the help they need! We want to purchase a new van so that we can have a good warranty, as well as get one that is environmentally friendly. Although this seems like a huge investment (and it is) it is imperative that we find a solution to the dilemna we face daily of how to transport animals from place to place. In the past four years, RAR has had to hire drivers with vans to transport animals for us, at the immense cost of over $14,000! I know this is a problem for other charities as well, and we can help them out as much as possible. Nancy and Chrissy will pay for the driver's salary--not the charity or RAR. Please help us to cut costs so we can purchase this van for future animal rescue campaigns.
Animal rescue organizations and supporters have declared April 4, 2011 Stray Animals Day. Organizations from the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Belgium, Thailand, Romania, and Georgia will be taking part in this event. RAR will be participating by setting up a Spay Day in Romania on April 4.
Together with international support, there are 25 more neutered dogs on the streets of Craiova in December 2010. That will really save quite a few pups from being born in the first months of 2011! With the proceeds of the first two months and the donation from international donors, all 34 dogs will no longer produce puppies. These are pups that will not be born in the future and will not have a pitiful life ahead of them.
Dr. Aurelian from Romania Animal Rescue was invited by Dr. Jeff Young of Planned Pethood Plus to participate in this event as a surgeon. More than 1700 animals were spayed/neutered!
Humane Society International is hosting a Photo Contest as a fundraising campaign for participating charities. We are entering photos of some of our rescues. Every dollar you donate casts a vote for one of these photos to win. Click here to see all of our submissions. You can cast your votes on as many photos as you wish, and as often as you like!
Joanne and Oscar set off on an eight-month journey across five continents to draw positive attention to the 475 million homeless dogs around the world. They visited more than 60 animal welfare organizations on their trip, including Romania Animal Rescue! Joanne has written a book about her adventures with Oscar, and is selling it on Amazon.com. Please support her book and the attention she has brought to animal welfare.
But then I was hit by a car. The driver dropped me at a veterinary clinic and never returned. The vet won't treat me unless someone sponsors me. Can you help Romania Animal Rescue pay for my treatment? I have two broken legs. They say if I get them fixed I will be able to run again. And play. And wrestle. That would be fun! THIS JUST IN: TUDOR NOW HAS THE FUNDING FOR VETERINARY TREATMENT!
![]() Sasha Then ![]() Sasha Now Little Sasha has seen the best and worst of life. Sasha once lived in a loving home in Arad, Romania. When her elderly caretaker died, a neighbor who had promised to take care of Sasha kicked her out in the street. There Sasha became pregnant and gave birth. She was hit by a car, but Sasha, determined, dragged herself back to her puppies. Then a miracle happened, and from that day on Sasha would only know the good that humans are capable of providing. Sasha and her puppies were found in a ditch and rescued. Her shattered leg was amputated by the group, Animed Arad, and her puppies were adopted locally. No one wanted a three-legged adult dog, so RAR was asked to help. Margaret from Milwaukee saw the appeal for Sasha and believed she was the proper companion. RAR sponsored Sasha's trip, and Cristina Zuba from APAM in Arad gave Sasha a place to live until her flight could be arranged. When Sasha and Margaret met in Milwaukee, it was love at first sight. Now Sasha's favorite activity is running like a gazelle on her three legs. Sasha also loves to escape and go out on the town. Luckily for her, Margaret is an incredibly patient Mom and Sasha has trained her neighbors to round her up on occasion. Thanks to her own spunk and the help of an international group of rescuers, Sasha has found her perfect home.
See Dr. Aurelian playing with Stuart. Most of you have heard the story of Stuart, who was found near-starving and with almost no hair, just as winter was gripping Romania. Now Stuart is a new dog: He is healthy and happy and furry and on his way to his new home in Florida. Stuart's transformation would not have been possible without the intervention, care, and patience of Dr. Stefan Aurelian, who took Stuart in and treated him as he would his own dog. He gave Stuart free medical treatment and free lodging for his entire stay. Dr. A told us, "Behind the ugliness of Stuart's appearance was a dog that was always happy and cheerful. He took his medicine daily and was never sad or in a bad mood. He always waited for you to rub his belly. We learned something from him in the two and a half months we spent with Stuart at the clinic: Keep smiling because life can always bring good or bad surprises." We think Stuart knew he was in good hands, and his miraculous recovery had not only to do with Dr. A's skill but also his deep concern for the animals. Thank you, Dr. A, for helping us to see what a difference we can each make in an animal's life. Thank you for saving Stuart so he can live to experience many good surprises.

Since our December newsletter was published, we have funded 41 more spay/neuter surgeries. Our vets do more than just spay or neuter dogs. They provide care and compassion for them, including a number of veterinary treatments, vaccinations, and deparasitation.
There are more than 1 billion stray animals living in our world. They lead poor and miserable lives on the streets, often ill-fed, suffering extreme heat, cold, and diseases, even more often being chased around by hostile and violent civilians and authorities.
Hi, my name is Tudor. I was born out of wedlock on the streets of Timisoara, Romania. I used to like to run and play and wrestle with my brothers and sisters.
Burke found a dog, Boo, in Ploiesti, Romania, while working there. RAR offered to help him get Boo back to the USA for adoption. Burke was thrilled, and so are we! Boo will travel to Pennsylvania next month. Thanks to the help from Raluca Simion of GIA, Bucharest, and Dr. Pepe of RAR in Bucharest! RAR is also going to spay/neuter, vaccinate, and provide veterinary care for a number of dogs that are living at the factory outside of Ploiesti where Burke was working! We have also been able to help others with the costs of vet care, tests, and treatments for animals from the streets and from shelters--all thanks entirely to YOU for your continued donations and support!

FPCC has graciously allowed us to use their educational booklets. Chrissy, from Romania Animal Aid and Romania Animal Rescue, have hired a former English teacher to hold in-class educational programs for students!
