Please help us to stop the overpopulation of unwanted dogs and cats in Romania!
Many people believe that spay/neuter is cruel to an animal. We believe
that allowing millions of unwanted animals to be born into a world of
suffering, poisoning and neglect is a sin. We have the capabilities to
stop this crisis, and now so does Romania! Please contact Pope Benedict
XVI and the Archbishop of The Romanian Orthodox Church and let
ask him to speak about spay/neuter for dogs and cats in Romania. This will
only take a few minutes.
I have made a wonderful connection with a woman who actually knows the Pope
from University, and she has offered to personally deliver letters to him
when he visits his hometown of Regensburg in September, 2006. Let's flood
him with requests that he endorse spay/neuter! Can you imagine what that
could do to help the animals around the world? Perhaps it would lead to
other leaders promoting s/n as well! We've got to try it!
Thank you!!
Nancy Janes (and all the animals)
Letter Example:
A
speech by you including how important it is for the communities in
Romania to sterilize their animals, and all stray animals, would be the
best thing you could do to help your country's crisis with street dogs.
I do not believe this interferes with the Church's position on HUMAN
birth control, as we are the caretakers of the creatures, who do not
breed out of love, but out of instinct.
Many times I have encountered the statement, "But it is God's will
for a female dog or cat to have offspring". Once these offspring
are born, they are subject to poisoning, starving, and abuse by the very
people who promoted their birth!
I hope you will help God's creatures with the kindness of the message:
"Neuter or spay your dogs and cats. We will have no more strays who
suffer".
Thank you,
Nancy Janes

Email Letter from Alina Raducan:
Nancy,
I am an animal lover and I have tried to find an explanation for what is
happening here in Romania regarding stray dogs and animal protection in general.
One of the things that I have found out is that
the Catholic religion shows the most interest in animal protection. You do not
forget that animals are creations of God's hands. Reading a book about Saint
Francis of Assisi, reading the words of Pope Paul II, I understand that you
respect and love what cannot speak, but breathes.
In a book about the Catholic religion it was
written something like this: There are four differences between the beings that God
created on Earth: The angels who are immortal and sprightly, human beings who
have mind, soul and ghost, others have just soul and ghost like animals, and
plants have just life. When I see the animals suffering, when they are skinned
alive for their fur, when I see dogs agonize, I remember these words. And I
understand how much God suffers. He cries for the harm we cause to animals. Your
voice is honest and strong. Please make them hear you.

Letter from Ioana Drasoveanu:
My name is Ioana Drasoveanu and I live in Cluj, Romania. I'm writing to you now because we, those who love animals, are very grievously affected
by (and also revolted against) a law that authorizes the killing of the stray dogs (on a large scale, an organized massacre). I know many things about dogs, and I have never seen anything but love and trust in their eyes, so I cannot double-cross this trust by doing nothing. Still, I don't know what else I could do, but ask for the support of the people who, like you, know that life is sacred. There are few people here in Romania (30%) who love animals, who try to fight this unjust law.
We keep saying that sterilizing would be an alternative to this useless massacre, which is so painful for us, but nobody seems to hear. If the Church would be on our side, and I think it should, maybe we could save from an unjust death these great innocent who are the stray dogs.
We beg of you to hear us and think a little about this almost hopeless situation we are in.
With much esteem and hope,
Ioana Drasoveanu
