We are fewer than 400 procedures away from reaching our 10,000 goal! A female dog could produce 67,000 offspring through six years (generations) of her life. 10,000 dogs are capable of producing 335 MILLION offspring!
Map of 2011 Spayathon

Dear Romania Animal Supporters »

For several months, we have been preparing this year's 10-day Spayathon to help the city of Craiova. Billboards around the city have been announcing the event, asking people to bring their dogs for free spay/neuter. We will also trap many of the thousands of strays in the city to bring to the Spayathon. We will reach our 10,000 spay/neuter goal at this event, and will give you all of the details next month when it happens.

Following the Spayathon in Craiova, I will be traveling to Tecuci to meet with our representative there for the spay/neuter program, Mihaela of Association Tomita. RAR has on ongoing spay/neuter program in Tecuci providing free spay/neuter procedures (almost 1000 in a year). I will be bringing a humane catch trap so that Mihaela can capture some of the feral dogs for ongoing spay/neuter events. Then I will be going to Iasi to meet with our representative in that city for the spay/neuter and in-school educational program. From Iasi, I will go to Botosani and meet with some Peace Corp volunteers and pick up Baloo for adoption. We were contacted about him a few months ago, and we have had him in a shelter there until I could pick him up for adoption.

Thank you,

May Spayathon »

We are busy getting the medical supplies organized for our Spayathon in Craiova, Romania from May 15th through the 25th. Billboards, like this one, have been posted throughout Craiova.

Volunteers from the USA, Austria, the UK, and Romania will come to Craiova to help with this huge event. Our goal is to spay/neuter 1000 dogs in 10 days. Dr. Bachman, Dr. Aurelian, Dr. Pepe, Dr. Good and his son, Dr. Good, and vet tech, Dave, will all be working hard to get spay/neuter procedures done. RAR has saved for this all year, and will empty our bank account for certain. We trust that our donors will help us to continue great work by donating for our continued services in Romania.

Bubu the Lovebug Wants a Home »

This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Meet Bubu's. This loving, gentle dog knows she is now in good hands. But not long ago her life was different. She was living in a park in Bucharest, where she trusted the wrong human and was severely beaten. When an animal lover found her, Bubu's eyes had turned white from the cranial trauma.

Bubu was rushed to a vet, who saved her life. She is recovering quickly and although she still shies from people who might hurt her, she is becoming the confident dog she once was. She is an absolutely friendly girl who would never hurt a soul; she just wants to feel the same from her human.

She is no more than a year old and is spayed. She will be catching a flight to the US on June 1. Do you or does anyone you know want to adopt this sweet, lucky young lady? Please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Bubu will be so grateful, and your reward will be seeing the wag of the tail and the contented smile that says she's finally found her forever home.

Injured Dog Needs a Wheelchair »

My name is Husky. I was homeless, surviving on the streets. My good looks and charm helped me get handouts. But then I was broadsided by a speeding car. When I woke up I was at the hospital and my leg had been amputated. I can't move well right now, so I lie here on the floor, hoping people will take time to scratch my ears.

So why am I smiling? I'm a lucky dog. A donor offered to sponsor my trip to the United States through Romania Animal Rescue. And I've already found a home with a family in New Mexico.

All I need now is a special cart that will allow me to walk again. Even with an animal rescue discount, the cart costs $500. Can you make a donation toward the purchase? If just 20 people donate $25, I can be mobile once again. Then there will be no stopping me. Maybe I'll even climb on top of a mesa!

Den Mother »

She hid them well, under a basement that nobody knew of, not even the person feeding her every day. After seven weeks they emerged from their protective den and started exploring.

We did the two dewormings and now we prepare them for the first vaccination. Unfortunately we do not have a place for them, so they are still on the street. We are looking for families to adopt them. Suite101.com has published a story about the ongoing program to reduce the number of stray dogs roaming Romanian streets. Stray Animals Day: April 4, 2011 »

Stray Animals Day raised awareness in 17 countries that the problem of stray animal overpopulation affects us all. Romania Animal Rescue participated with a Spay Day in Tecuci.

The Romanian government chose an auspicious time to plan the abolition of humane stray animals legislation. With the world heightened to Stray Animals Day, protests in the United States and Romania pressured lawmakers not to reverse the progress made in promoting animal welfare in Romania. They are expected to cast their vote this week. We will keep you posted to the effect our protests made on the leaders of the Romanian people.

Botosani Baloo »

Baloo will be traveling home with Nancy on June 1 for adoption in Oregon! Romania Animal Rescue was alerted to the plight of Baloo who lived on the streets in Botosani. He is now in a shelter awaiting his meeting with Nancy and his travels to the USA! Thank you Peggy and Alina for your help!
