The [Romanian] Constitutional Court (CC) decided today that dog euthanasia is unconstitutional under Community law. The decision is final.

Law can not be promulgated because the CC decided that Articles 6 and 8 of the law, precisely the two items that would have allowed euthanasia of stray dogs, violate constitutional provisions.

Stray dogs euthanasia law was passed by the Chamber of Deputies in November 2011.

The announcement of the unconstitutionality of the law was received with cheers by the members of animal protection organizations.
