$1500 for 25 Dogs in Braila
Nancy
received an email from Daniela Dargomir in Braila, asking for RAR's
assistance to help an 85 year old woman who is trying to care for 25
dogs in the countryside. Braila is very close to Galati, and
we would love to be able to help spay/neuter and give veterinary care
for the 25 dogs that this woman looks after, as well as the 2 litters of
3 week old puppies that have been born.
This woman has survived Communist times and may not be around much
longer to fully appreciate the economic changes happening in a country
that's been bittersweet to her. Let's give her some hope and answer
her plea. To her this is a huge request. To RAR it feels like the
least we can do. Please help us give hope to a woman who has been
through a lot, but still continues to recognize the bond between her
and her dogs, and who cares enough to reach out for help. Please help
RAR save the lives of many unwanted puppies with the $1500 that is
needed to pay for these surgeries, vaccinations, parasite treatment, and medical
help for this special woman's animals.
Contract Signed for Dog Food
RAR signed a contract with "Diablo" in Galati to feed the city pound dogs at Mr. Cenac's shelter, on February 18, 2007.
Man's Best Friend Finds the
Right Woman
For Anna Marie's owner, Nancy Janes of Livermore, having her canine earn the
"Best in Show" award was gravy. This is one dog that's lucky to be alive.

RAR Attends Conference for
Internation Companion Animal Welfare
We recently attended the International Companion Animal Welfare
Conference, hosted by Dog's
Trust, UK and North Shore Animal League
International, held in Slovenia.
We attended these seminars with Dr. Ileana and Marion Capatana from Romania Animal Rescue, in Romania, and Claudiu Iosim from
Animed Arad, Romania. Dr. Ileana's sterilization program is so very successful, and she would like to hire other vets to work from their clinics in Galati, to be a part of the RAR team, offering free spay/neuter to the public! This has been our dream for a long time:
To get many vets involved throughout the city to make it convenient for all citizens to take advantage of the free spay/neuter
program. It has been very successful thus far thanks to
SPANA and YOU!!!
BUT...
Funds Needed!!!
Our SPANA grant is in its final days.
We are expecting the final portion of our funds for the sterilization program of 2006. At this time I must ask your HELP in funding, once again. We need to keep this offer of FREE public sterilization for all animals available, as the city and public and the animals! depend on us for help. WE JUST CAN'T LET THEM DOWN!
Any help can be sent to RAR via Paypal, Star Donor, directly to us with your credit card, or a check can be mailed to RAR at:
Romania Animal Rescue, Inc.
8000 Morgan Territory Rd
Livermore, CA 94551
All donations are tax deductible.
Donations from Others
The
Mayhew Animal Home in London has offered to train Romanian veterinarians for us.
Thank you to The Wildlife Center of Virginia
and SNIP International for donating supplies to Dr. Ileana, as well as Dr. Karter Neal of the
Humane Society of Southern
Arizona, Wereld
Asielen, ACES and Bill Brothers, Best Friends Animal
Society, Tina Wilson, Cheri Brownlee, and our many donors who supplied suture material and animal catching supplies to RAR to help with our sterilization program in Romania. We would also like to thank
Help Labus in Galati for transporting animals, free of charge, to Dr. Ileana for sterilization. They did this on their own, and we could not be more grateful to them!
Hello World!!
Rory and I were able to meet with SPANA representatives at their office in London, courtesy of Karen Jones, as well as have a tour of the
Mayhew Animal Home
in London, courtesy of Joy Lee. We met with donors Hazel, Denise and Sharon while in London as well!
Dr. Elly Hiby of WSPA was recently in San Francisco (our stomping grounds!) and I was able to attend an excellent seminar hosted by her with information about animals worldwide. I found out then that Romania is considered one of the 3 most difficult countries in the world to work
with. This makes me even more determined to work there, because the animals cannot help the circumstances under which they were born!
RAR Works with ARF To
Rescue Puppies
A Good Samaritan, who is working for the
Opera in lasi, Romania, contacted RAR while we were in Galati last November
(2005) to tell us of 7 puppies and a mother with a burned out eye and cigarette
burns all over her body. RAR met this wonderful woman, Olympia, and together the
rescue of 5 puppies (2 died before they could be saved from the cold) and the
mom, Sally, was on!
RAR arranged through Tony La Russa's
Animal Rescue Foundation in Walnut Creek, CA, to have the puppies rehomed in the
USA. We wanted Sally to go as well, but she was too big for us to take. The
puppies were fostered in Livermore by RAR, then taken to ARF for
adoption.
These rescued puppies need help to get placed in good homes. RAR works with Marin
Humane Society for placing these puppies.
