Dear Romania Animal Rescue Supporters and Friends,

Many new things are going on in Romania this month! I am off to Galati again (with Rory's frequent flyer miles) to pay Mr. Cenac's shelter food bills and meet with Dr. Ileana and our NEW STAFF (2 people) who are gathering statistics about the dogs and advertising in the media and in the neighborhoods for RAR about our free spay/neuter program! Marian and Geo Capatana have agreed to join the RAR team to help in our animal welfare endeavor. We can afford to pay them, together, $200/month, but I am hoping this will change as we expand and our need for them grows.

SOMETHING NEW!

We have a new endeavor in a new area of Romania: I have been contacted by numerous film crews about the plight of the dogs at Media Pro and Snagov Forest, both areas where international films are being made by major studios, such as 20th Century Fox. I need any and all help in contacting influential producers, directors, and celebrities so that we can get the funds to advertise the plight of the dogs in Romania worldwide through the film industry, while raising funds for our continued spay/neuter program. I will be going to both locations while in Romania to discuss our plans with the film crews currently on location.

We have some photos in our June Photo Diary of puppies from the Media Pro location in Buftea. Please see these new photos.

Carmen and Roxana of Nature Heritage Foundation located outside of Bucharest agreed to take the puppies and mother into their shelter. Frances Conroy, who alerted RAR to the crisis of these pups, has offered to pay for their care until they can be rehomed in her neighborhood in Southern California.

RAR has decided that we would like to raise funds, hopefully through the film industry, to purchase a mobile clinic to go to these locations and spay/neuter and care for the dogs so they will not continue to have puppies! The puppies in this photo were full of lice, fleas and ticks. One of the puppies, the one on the lower left with brown and black markings, died.

We already have a veterinarian who will be working full time for RAR on this project, which we hope will be up and running within the next few years. The faster we can get this program launched, the better for the animals.

HELPING HANDS ACROSS THE MILES PROJECT

Wow! Thanks to many wonderful people and organizations working together, 12 lucky puppies will be coming to California for placement in great homes!

RAR was contacted by Frances Conroy while she and a film crew were on location at Snagov Forest. The situation for the starving dogs was desperate. Frances asked if we could take the dogs for care anywhere, and I referred her to Robert Smith's FPCC charity and shelter, located about an hour away from Snagov Forest. Sure enough, Robert's staff came and picked up the mother dogs, puppies, and all female dogs and took them to their clinic and shelter. They were spayed there, and the puppies found safe sanctuary from the life they were leading in Romania thus far.

Robert has asked if we could help in relocating these puppies, since his is a Trap Neuter Release program, and these young ones would not be able to make it if released back to the same location in Snagov.

Helen Woodward Animal Center came to the rescue, once again!!! HWAC, located in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, has agreed to find great homes for the puppies if we can get them to California. With the expenses paid for by Robert Smith, I will be bringing these pups back with me on approximately June 20 when I return to California from Romania. Our deepest thanks to Frances Conroy, Helen Woodward Animal Center, Robert Smith and FPCC for this help! (see footnote)

CRATES NEEDED!

We are in DESPERATE need of crates for this journey. We will need at least 4 crates to transport the puppies to the HWAC. The cost of one the crate is approximately $130. I have tried to borrow crates, but currently I cannot find any. Since Dr. Ileana needs crates as well for her pre/post surgery animals, I think it is finally time that RAR purchase crates of our own so that we will not be in such a desperate straight again! Any help from you is greatly appreciated--and tax deductible!!

Thank you all for your generous support. Every day things are changing in Romania for the better of the animals, and it is entirely due to YOUR support!

Sincerely,
Nancy Janes

**ALTHOUGH RELOCATING ANIMALS TO THE USA IS NOT OUR PURPOSE, we feel it is necessary to help the animals who are alive in Romania as best we can, while preventing their births in the first place. We hope that someday in the near future Romania will be in a position to care for its own dogs, but currently, this is not the case. Please remember to adopt animals in your local shelters in the USA, who need loving homes as well!!!
