Highlights:
Dear Romania Animal Rescue Supporters and Friends,
The
SEPTEMBER FUND DRIVE is on!
(September 5-25)
Featuring our new book HOPE: Introducing Animal Welfare to Romania
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Olson will be going to Romania on October 3rd to train Romanian veterinarians in humane methods of spay/neuter, and perform S/N surgery on hundreds of dogs and cats! The number of animals which we can help depends directly on the success of our
SEPTEMBER FUND DRIVE, in other words, on YOU our wonderful donors!
WE NEED TO RAISE AT LEAST $12,500.
RAR needs to raise funds for Dr. Olson's veterinary supplies and in-country travel while she volunteers her time and services to train veterinarians throughout Romania
in modern surgical procedures and spays/neuters dogs and cats for RAR. Dr. Olson will be in the cities of Cluj-Napoca, Harsova, Galati and Buftea Romania. Dr. Ileana has also offered to train vets in and around Galati--altogether we anticipate some 900 dogs and cats will be spay/neutered.
THIS IS OUR MOST IMPORTANT FUND DRIVE OF THE YEAR, THE TIMING OF WHICH IS PARTICULARLY CRITICAL, BECAUSE THE MORE SPAY/NEUTER PROCEDURES ARE PERFORMED IN OCTOBER, THE FEWER HOMELESS, UNWANTED PUPPIES AND KITTENS WILL BE BORN IN THE SPRING.
 |
As part of our September Fund Drive, RAR is proud to announce the publication of our book,
HOPE--Introducing Animal Welfare to Romania.
This book is a wonderful portrait of the work that is being done by RAR and others to turn the tide of animal neglect and abuse in Romania. Filled with sixty pages of full-color photographs, "HOPE" offers the reader articles and valuable insights into the history of Romania, it's people, the plight of its animals, and, of penultimate importance, the solution to the animal overpopulation problem. With your generous ongoing support, RAR will continue to bring help and HOPE to the animals of Romania.
|
We are offering our book, HOPE: Introducing Animal Welfare to Romania, in paperback to donors who can donate funds
for 3 or more spay/neuters ($75); and in hardbound to donors who can donate funds for
10 or more spay/neuters ($250) along with a tax deductible receipt!
Donors who find themselves able to contribute funds for 100+ spay/neuter procedures ($3,000) to RAR will have a special "Plaque of Gratitude" placed in the entrance to Dr. Ileana's clinic in Galati. The Plaque of Gratitude will have their name, an inscription of gratitude, and if desired, additional language "In dedication to" or "In memory of" inscription. This is a very special way to let the Romanian citizens know who is helping them help their animals.
Of course, any amount that you are able to contribute, no matter how small, is always deeply appreciated!
HARSOVA PUPPIES
RAR's primary goal is the spay/neuter of stray dogs and cats in Romania. We do not want to bring puppies to the USA, and strongly encourage everyone to adopt animals from local shelters. However, a situation recently arose in Harsova, Romania on which we could not turn our backs.
In the town of Harsova, the Mayor has offered a reward for people who kill stray and street dogs and bring their ears in for payment. Marshall Greenman, a missionary working in Harsova, contacted RAR with the sad truth about the dilemma there, saying he had rescued 7 dogs which he was maintaining on his farm, but there were also 16 puppies, 6 and 8 weeks old, which he could not keep. RAR sent a vet to Marshall's farm to spay/neuter the 7 dogs, and under the circumstances, Nancy felt as though these 16 puppies needed our help to find homes and be safe. Therefore RAR rehomed the 16 puppies to California.
Harsova is but one case in point for our September Fund Drive: This town has no small animal vet trained in spay/neuter, but with your help, RAR is sending Dr. Olson to Harsova where she will train two "large animal" vets in humane methods of small animal spay/neuter. Step by step, in towns, villages and cities, your donations continue to help us help the animals.
RAR wishes to thank all of the wonderful donors who helped RAR re-home these 16 adorable puppies from Harsova into loving families: Melanie, AnnaBell, Charlotte, Rory, Neil, Dawn, Valerie, Dionisia, Gail. Mo and Nancy Hair.
Big puppy breath kisses to all of you!!
As you can see, they are cute as can be!
| Bath Time... What's that?! |
Uh oh! Let me outta here!! |
 |
 |
| Now the crates are clean.... |
...and so are the puppies! |
 |
 |
| Whew! This bath business is exhausting! |

MESSAGES FROM ROMANIA ... TO YOU, OUR DONORS
We will again be bringing "Messages from Romania to You, our Donors" in this and future newsletters.
Dear Friends of RAR,
All of us at Animed Arad wish to thank you so much for your generosity and support. In a society where 'charity' is still a such a young notion, your help and support in the form of training, supplies and financial assistance is essentially the only way to educate our fellow Romanians.
Thank you so much for caring, and please don't forget us.

IN MEMORY AND IN CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF "CAMMY"

This Newsletter is dedicated to the memory of "CAMMY",
Rory Janes' 26-year old quarterhorse.
An outstandingly beautiful horse with a wonderful personality, Cammy was a dearly loved and treasured member of Rory and Nancy Janes' family for 18 years. Forever the lady, Cammy added a touch of daintiness to everything she did.
The bond Cammy and Rory developed over the years cannot be known by other than them. Many quiet, long rides together, soft early dew-lit mornings, evenings under setting skies, and silent starlit evenings, the two of them at one with nature and each other, their souls bonded in unspoken, unknowable ways. (Their rides were often cut short, however, when Cammy knew they were near the pond ...oh, how she loved her swims.)
Rory and Nancy would go to the barn each morning, and Rory would ask, "How's my little sweetheart this morning?" Cammy was always delighted at the site of Rory, with his carrots, apples and horse cookies!
The barn is very quiet now without her.

HOPE: Introducing Animal Welfare to Romania!
As always, thank you all for your generous support. Every day things are changing in Romania for the betterment of the animals, and it is entirely due to YOUR support!
With warmest regards,
NANCY JANES,
Founder
ALTHOUGH RELOCATING ANIMALS TO THE USA IS NOT OUR PURPOSE, we feel it is necessary to help the animals who are alive in Romania as best we can, while preventing their births in the first place. We hope that someday in the near future Romania will be in a position to care for its own dogs, but currently, this is not the case. Please remember to adopt animals in your local shelters in the USA, who need loving homes as well!
