The Solution
Spay/Neuter Animals
Spaying/Neutering is at the top of our list. We cannot turn the tide of overpopulation until we reduce the growth rate of the stray population. With as many as 1000 dogs in a single pound, none of the animals get the care and attention they deserve. Spaying/Neutering can limit the number of animals born into already-overcrowded kennels. Dr. Ileana reports that our free spay/neuter program has become very popular. With the continued support of our donors, we hope not to have to turn any animals away!
Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR)

RAR offers free spay/neuter and veterinary care for the 'street strays' in Galati and the surrounding areas (population 380,000 humans - approximately 14,000 dogs, number of cats unknown). Animal caregivers bring in their beloved street dogs and cats for sterilization, vaccination, and parasite treatments, at no cost. These animals then return to the caregiver and to their previous location where most are fed - but now they are sterile and cannot reproduce. Dr. Ileana offers these services free to impoverished citizens, but she even offers low-cost spay/neuter for the citizens who can afford it.

When 80% of the street animals are sterilized, we will have achieved zero population growth.
