RAR's ongoing educative and therapeutic programs have as a target the homeless animals, animals with owners, and also the animal lovers, in order to promote the respect and kindness for all living creatures on Earth!

Our programs include:

• International Volunteers Program;
• Educative Program; and
• Sterilization campaign for the homeless animals and owned pets in the Galati area

Starting the spring of 2006, RAR has begun to work with two local veterinary clinics to spay/neuter and treat as many homeless animals as our budget allows.

Thanks to Romania Animal Rescue, Inc., Dr. Jeanne Olson spent 3 weeks (27 April-15 May 2006) at Dr. Ileana Gheorghita's clinic where she impressed everyone with her knowledge and ingenuity to adapt to unusual and unpredictable situations that occurred.

Thanks to Dr. Olson's efforts, we were able to:

• spay/neuter all unsterilized dogs at the first pound;
• spay/neuter and treat homeless animals brought by local community; and
• save some severely injured dogs.

We are estimating that the number of unsterilized homeless animals in our town is 7,000. Last year, we closely collaborated with the Humane Society International and RAVS USA vets. We successfully spayed/neutered and treated almost a hundred animals in their short stay.

Dr. Gheorghita Ileana was trained by RAVS USA vets about less-painful anesthesia methods, as well as a new suture technique. She also completed the International Veterinary Training Program, 20th-31st March 2006, organized by Mayhew Animal Home UK.

We will always need funds/donations in kind like:

• Veterinary items for sterilization
• dry animals food
• funds to cover the additional costs (e.g., fuel for vans used to transport dogs, etc.)

We also make an appeal to all animal lovers willing to be actively involved in our sterilization campaign to volunteer their time to help the Romanian animals and us in this important program!

We currently need more than ever:

• Veterinary assistants; and
• reporters and volunteers able to do press-releases and spread the word all over world, to contact international media with our updates and news.
